ISRAEL - Jerusalem, the Western Wall

The Western Wall is believed to be the outer wall of the Jewish Second Temple that was ruined.  The whole place is separated to male and female section, the same as in synagogue.  It is a tradition that one who come to pray at the wall, puts a note with his or hers wishes and God listens and apply.

Thanks to Ira for very informative card.

ISRAEL - Jerusalem the Western Wall on a festival day

The postcard shows praying men during the Sukkot holiday, which is in the end of September to beginning of October.  According to the Bible (the Old Testament), Jews must come to Jerusalem to the Western Wall to pray 3 times a year; during Passover (Pesah), during Shavuot (in May) and during Sukkot.

Also it's a custom that when a boy reaches 13th birthday (Bar Mitzra) and a girl 12th (Bat Mitzra) the whole family comes here to celebrate and thank God.

Thanks again Ira!

ISRAEL - Jerusalem

For the past 3 days, my mailbox is smiling with these wonderful cards.  Returning home after a long day at work to these is simply a best feeling. And today, 7 cards arrived in my mailbox.

These 2 wonderful blank cards shows Jerusalam and city in Israel is from Irina, together with beautiful Jerusalam magnet. Thank you so much!

"Jerusalem ( Hebrew: יְרוּשָׁלַיִם About this sound Yerushaláyim; Arabic: القُدس‎ About this sound al-Quds), located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there and the State of Palestine ultimately foresees it as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally."

ISRAEL - Falafel

"Falafel (Arabic: فلافل‎,) is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, commonly served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread known as lafa; "falafel" also frequently refers to a wrapped sandwich that is prepared in this way. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces."

..and a bee-uutiful Israel stamps!
