"Pilosocereus palmeri inhabits tropical deciduous forest, xerophyllous scrub, and submontane forest. It germinates in the shade of plant canopies and in soil-filled rock crevices than in flat open areas. It is mainly bat-pollinated although to a lesser degree, diurnal visitors also caused some fruit set. It is partially self-compatible but unable to set fruit without visitors. The habitat of Pilosocereus palmeri is home to succulent flora and is particularly rich in local endemics."

Beautiful Ukraine wooden church sent from Latvia, thanks to Aleesa for the card.

"Wooden Descent of the Holy Spirit Church was built in suburb of Potelych, Ukraine in 1502 on the place of a church that burned down by tatars. It is the oldest wooden church in Lviv Oblast. Church was visited by Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

The structure consists of three wooden naves and a brick sacristy."

UKRAINE - St Mykola Church-Lighthouse

Did you know.... that the only church-lighthouse in memory of lost by waters and travelers is located on the southern coast of Crimea, in Ukraine.  The church laid on a high slope over the sea ca be seen from many parts of the peninsula.  Thanks to postcrosser Bogdon for the card.

"The church-lighthouse, begun in 2004, was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, patron saint of sailors in 2007. The town is on the shore of the Black Sea, along the Belaya River. The church-lighthouse was built as a memorial to the victims of sea catastrophe. It includes a museum of such disasters in the crypt and there is a memorial wall with nameplates for those who died in the sea. The main icon is made of a half million knitted knots, without any silver or gold. It took a year and a half and the actor who made the icon was almost completely paralyzed when he started. Doctors had advised him to strengthen his hand by knitting. When the icon was completed he was almost completely healed."

"The Descent of the Holy Spirit Church is a wooden Christian church in Rohatyn, IvanoFrankivsk region, built at the end of the 16th century. Now used as a museum institution. In the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in Cambodia on June 21, 2013, the Descent of the Holy Spirit Church, along with other wooden churches of the Carpathian region was inscribed on the World Heritage List. "

UKRAINE - Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle

"Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle is a former Ruthenian-Lithuanian castle and a later three-part Polish fortress located in the historic city of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ukraine, in the historic region of Podolia in the western part of the country. Its name is attributed to the root word kamin', from the Slavic word for stone.

Historical accounts date Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle to the early 14th century, although recent archaeological evidence has proved human existence in the area back to the 12th or 13th century. Initially built to protect the bridge connecting the city with the mainland, the castle sits on top of a peninsula carved out by the winding Smotrych River, forming a natural defense system for Kamianets-Podilskyi's historic Old Town neighborhood."

UKRAINE - St Michael's Golden Domed Cathedral, Kyiv/Kiev

"St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery (Ukrainian: Михайлівський золотоверхий монастир, Mykhaylivs’kyi zolotoverkhyi monastyr) is a functioning monastery in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

Originally built in the Middle Ages by Sviatopolk II Iziaslavych, the monastery comprises the Cathedral itself, the Refectory of St. John the Divine, built in 1713, the Economic Gates, constructed in 1760 and the monastery's bell tower, which was added circa 1716–1719. The exterior of the structure was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style in the 18th century while the interior remained in its original Byzantine style. The original cathedral was demolished by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s, but was reconstructed and opened in 1999 following Ukrainian independence in 1991."

"The Olympic National Sports Complex (also known as Olympic Stadium; Ukrainian: Національний спортивний комплекс "Олімпійський") is a multi-use sports and recreation facility in Kyiv, Ukraine, located on the slopes of the city's central Cherepanov Hill, Pechersk Raion. The stadium is the premier sports venue in Ukraine and the second largest in Eastern Europe after Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. The complex beside its stadium also features several other sports facilities and is designed to host the Olympic Games (the stadium hosted some football matches at the 1980 Summer Olympics)."

These cards are from swap in official postcrossing.  The card shows the city of Odessa and the second card show Poppy seed buns.  Looks yumm....Now, I am hungry for some bun..
