CALIFORNIA - La Jolla

"La Jolla is a smart seaside area, known for its rugged coastline. Trails wind past pine trees and sandstone canyons in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, while the 2 courses at world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course sit atop sea cliffs. La Jolla Cove has sweeping ocean views, and the Shell Beach tide pools are home to anemones and crabs. Posh boutiques and waterfront restaurants dot walkable La Jolla Village."

CALIFORNIA - Hearst Castle

Begun by Willaim Randolph Hearst in 1919, the Castle was surrounded by 100,000 acres of rolling coastal hills, wildflowers and oaks. In the main "house" are 49 bathrooms, 58 bedrooms not including the 3 guest houses.  Thanks to John for the carad.


"Hearst Castle, San Simeon, is a National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark located on the Central Coast of California in the United States. The joint concept of William Randolph Hearst, the publishing tycoon, and his architect Julia Morgan, it was built between 1919 and 1947."

USA - Solvang, Southern California

"Solvang is a city in southern California's Santa Ynez Valley. It's known for its Danish-style architecture and many wineries. The Elverhøj Museum of History & Art explores the city's Danish heritage through personal stories and photographs. The Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum exhibits dozens of classic American, Japanese and European motorbikes. The Old Mission Santa Inés is an early-1800s Franciscan church."

USA - Old Sacramento Riverfront, California

The riverfront on the Sacramento River at Old Sacramento is a favourite destination for tourists.  The Tower Bridge with it's 160 foot towers is a major Sacramento landmark.

Nice card but I could not register this card as the ID is incorrect, no postmark or date.. the hand writing is hard for me to read the name..

"Mission San Francisco de Asís, or Mission Dolores, is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco and the seventh religious settlement established as part of the California chain of missions. The Mission was founded on June 29, 1776, by Lieutenant José Joaquin Moraga and Francisco Palóu (a companion of Junípero Serra), both members of the de Anza Expedition, which had been charged with bringing Spanish settlers to Alta (upper) California, and evangelizing the local Natives, the Ohlone."

CALIFORNIA - Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Pescadero

What a lovely surprise to received an envelope from postrcrosser Melissa.  It really makes my day! She sent these lovely lighthouse, old U.S. FDC of Yellowstone and some United Nations in New York city stamps.  Thank you so much Melissa.


The description on the back of the card:

"Pigeon Point Lighthouse open in 1872 and was considered a major landmark on the hazardous voyage between Monterey Bay and San Francisco.  Its 115-foot (35 m.) tower is one of the tallest on the Pacific Coast.  It is shown at the anniversary lightning of its original first order Fresnel lens, comprised of 1,008 prisms."
