VIETNAM Maxicard

Maxicard that I bought from my trip recently.

VIETNAM - Hoi An

One of the most fun thing to do when on vacation is to sent card to myself and friends.  I'm curious to how long the postcards takes to make their journey, this card took about 11 days. (posted on 19/12 at the airport and arrived today).

I really like postcard from Vietnam, I think they are gorgeous and I like the fact that they are a bit bigger than your standard postcard.

This wrap-up cards received for 2017. I know it's only the 30th but with no new mail until Tuesday 2nd January. these cards are it - the final batch.  2017 has been a very challenging year, filled with heartache, tears, deep sadness intertwining with proud moment, joy and laughters.  I hope I'll have the strength to let go of this past year and look forward to a promising new year to come.

"Hội An is a city on Vietnam’s central coast known for its well-preserved Ancient Town, cut through with canals. CHINA - Peking University

Thanks to Lin Ho for the card.

"The campus of Peking University was originally located northeast of the Forbidden City in the center of Beijing, and was later moved to the former campus of Yenching University in 1952. The main campus is in northwest Beijing, in Haidian district, near the Summer Palace and the Old Summer Palace; the area is traditionally where many of Beijing's most renowned gardens and palaces were built.

The university campus is in the former site of the Qing Dynasty imperial gardens and it retains much traditional Chinese-style landscaping, including traditional houses, gardens, pagodas, as well as many notable historical buildings and structures. American architect and art historian Talbot Hamlin designed some of the university's buildings constructed during the 1919 to 1922 period.[20]There are several gates that lead into campus — East, West and South gates, with the West Gate being the most well known for the painted murals on its ceiling. Weiming lake is in the north of the campus and is surrounded by walking paths and small gardens. The university hosts many museums, such as the Museum of University History and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology. Notable items in these museums include funerary objects that were excavated in Beijing and date back thousands of years from the graves of royalties of the Warring States period. There are ritual pottery vessels as well as elaborate pieces of jewelry on display. There are also human bones set up in the traditional burial style of that period."

USA - Mabry Mill

Lovely view of Mabry Mill in autumn.  Thanks Rachel for the card.

"Mabry Mill is a watermill located at milepost 176.2 of Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, Virginia. It is a tourist attraction mainly for the picturesque views of the mill itself. A short trail around the mill connects historical exhibits about life in rural Virginia. The trail allows visitors to view the gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop.

Mabry Mill was built by Edwin Boston Mabry (E.B. Mabry). E.B. Mabry returned to Floyd County in 1903 and began the construction of the mill. It was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then became a sawmill. By 1905 it was in operation as a gristmill. By 1910 the front part of the mill was completed and included a lathe for turning out wheel hubs, a tongue and groove lathe, a planer and a jig-saw. Between 1905 and 1914 E.B. Mabry bought adjacent tracts of land, mostly for the purpose of acquiring more water power."
