Fair Dinkum: Aussie Alphabet part 2

On 16 August 2016, part two of the Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet stamp series will be released. Once again, Artist Gavin Ryan has created some highly amusing and quintessentially ocker scenes, based on each letter of the alphabet.

Within each stamp-sized scene, there are places, products, lexicon, cultural icons and native fauna beginning with the featured letter.

Part One, released on 1 March 2016 featured the letters N, Q, S, V and W (to represent five of the six Australian states). This time it’s A, C, L, R, T. That means it’s Tassie’s turn! As well as Tarquin the tradie, you’ll cross paths with angry Aaron the Aussie Rules aficionado, and cautious couple Cheryl and Claude. Plus, there’s a lamington being lobbed, a crazy cockatoo and a chummy crocodile to contend with.

While you feel you may have caught everything, a second glance may bring something else to light …

A is for… Aussie Rules, Adelaide, ant, Anzac memorial …
C is for… Canberra, cockatoo, crocodile, campfire, couple…
L is for… Lace Monitor, lyrebird, lamington, log, lounge …
R is for… refrigerator, rugby, reel, rope, Red Centre, ruler…
T is for…Tasmania, tinnie, tradie, Tasmanian Devil, two-up …

So have a Captain Cook for some hidden Australiana, and keep your eyes peeled for part three of the Fair Dinkum Aussie alphabet.

PHILIPPINES - The Banaue Rice Terraces

The Banaue Rice Terraces are considered as 2,000 year old terraces that were whittled into the mountains of Ifugao Province in the Philippines Cordilleras by ancestors of the Batad native people.  Considered as "Eight Wonder of the World", these fields are stretching like steeping stones to the sky, which are situated about 1,500 meters above sea level and cover 4,000 square miles of mountainside.  The Rice Terrace Fields has been built largely by hand with hand tools and animal power.  They are feed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces.

Thanks to Darawisan for the card.
