DENMARK- Am Nyhavn, Copenhagen

Thanks to Ileach for the card. Denmark postcard mail in Germany.

"The Nyhavn ( Danish for "new port") is a central port in the Danish capital Copenhagen and one of the most important sights of the city.

The canal Nyhavn , completed in 1673, was commissioned to create a canal from the Copenhagen harbor to Kongens Nytorv . The colorful gabled houses on both sides of the small harbor arm originated predominantly in the 18th and 19th century. The port has brought numerous tavernas at an early stage, and the area is still today with its many restaurants , beer houses and dance halls next to the Istedgade of one of Copenhagen's most famous amusement parks. Harbor tours and museum ships are reminiscent of the time as a trading port, the importance of which lost its 400-meter-long and three-meter-deep channel no later than the beginning of the 20th century. The fairy-tale poet Hans Christian Andersen counted among the inhabitants of Nyhavn, at the end of which is Charlottenborg Palace."
