GERMANY - Cologne Cathedral
Cologne Cathedral, the third largest Church building from the World. Thanks to Michael for the card.
"Begun in 1248, the building of this Gothic masterpiece took place in several stages and was not completed until 1880. Over seven centuries, its successive builders were inspired by the same faith and by a spirit of absolute fidelity to the original plans. Apart from its exceptional intrinsic value and the artistic masterpieces it contains, Cologne Cathedral bears witness to the strength and endurance of European Christianity. No other Cathedral is so perfectly conceived, so uniformly and uncompromisingly executed in all its parts." Source
USA - Desert in Bloom, Arizona
The card read: Desert in Bloom. One distinguishing characteristic of deserts is extreme contrasts. For example, the stark contrast between sun and shadow is dramatically different from the softer light of humid lands. It seems contradictory that a landscape that is most famous for its parched and barren character could also be famous for spectacular displays of wildflowers.

'The temple house near the banks of the Neckar in Neckarelz in Baden-Württemberg goes back to the medieval tower of a Johanniter castle with the former name Burg Elz . The building, which dates back to the late 16th century, is after Burg Lohrbach the second oldest building in Mosbach and the only preserved Johanniter castle in Baden-Württemberg in its authentic form. Among the artistic treasures of the building used as a Catholic church is the Conradus stone , a grave stone from around 1300." Source

UNITED KINGDOM - The Cathedral Canterbury
Cathedral in Kent is one of the oldest and most famous buildings in the UK. It has 21 bells in its three towers and the oldest bell dates back to 1635 AS. Thanks Eunice for the card.
Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. It forms part of a World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby, leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion; the archbishop, being suitably occupied with national and international matters, delegates most of his functions as diocesan bishop to the Bishop suffragan of Dover, currently Trevor Willmott. Its formal title is the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ at Canterbury.
Founded in 597, the cathedral was completely rebuilt from 1070 to 1077. The east end was greatly enlarged at the beginning of the twelfth century, and largely rebuilt in the Gothic style following a fire in 1174, with significant eastward extensions to accommodate the flow of pilgrims visiting the shrine of Thomas Becket, the archbishop who was murdered in the cathedral in 1170. The Norman nave and transepts survived until the late fourteenth century, when they were demolished to make way for the present structures.
Before the English Reformation the cathedral was part of a Benedictine monastic community known as Christ Church, Canterbury, as well as being the seat of the archbishop.
