ENGLAND - Sissinghurst Castle, Kent

"The garden at Sissinghurst Castle in the Weald of Kent, in England was created in the 1930s by Vita Sackville-West, poet and gardening writer, and her husband Harold Nicolson, author and diplomat. Sackville-West was a writer on the fringes of the Bloomsbury Group who found her greatest popularity in the weekly columns she contributed as gardening correspondent of The Observer, which incidentally—for she never touted it—made her own garden famous A manor house with a three-armed moat was built here in the Middle Ages. In 1305, King Edward I spent a night here."

KELANTAN - Pasar Siti Khadijah

I joined Postcard United 12 days ago and received my first card from fellow malaysian postcrosser and it only took 3 days to arrived. Thank Mazz for the colorful market view. I wonder where I could find this card..

"Siti Khadijah Market (Pasar besar Siti Khadijah), as its name implies, is a local wet market. Its name after Prophet Muhammad's wife, whom is known for her entrepreneurial skill, as this market is mostly run by women. Apart from the usual fresh goodies like seafood, vegetables and wide variety of fruits, you can also find ready-to eat food like 'ayam percik', nasi ulam and a variety of noodle soups, all unique in flavors and taste of Kelantan, serves freshly for you. Not to forget to taste the local desserts like 'kuih muih' (cake sort of), tempeh and a glass of hot milk tea, which is the staple drink for Kelantanese.

RUSSIA - Church of the Resurrection

"This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881. After assuming power in 1855 in the wake of Russia's disastrous defeat in the Crimean war against Britain, France and Turkey, Alexander II initiated a number of reforms. In 1861 he freed the Russian serfs (peasants, who were almost enslaved to their owners) from their ties to their masters and undertook a rigorous program of military, judicial and urban reforms, never before attempted in Russia. However, during the second half of his reign Alexander II grew wary of the dangers of his system of reforms, having only barely survived a series of attempts on his life, including an explosion in the Winter Palace and the derailment of a train. Alexander II was finally assassinated in 1881 by a group of revolutionaries, who threw a bomb at his royal carriage.

The decision was taken to build a church on the spot where the Emperor was mortally wounded. The church was built between 1883 and 1907 and was officially called the Resurrection of Christ Church (a.k.a. The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood ). The construction of the church was almost entirely funded by the Imperial family and thousands of private donators. Both the interior and exterior of the church is decorated with incredibly detailed mosaics, designed and created by the most prominent Russian artists of the day (V.M. Vasnetsov, M.V. Nesterov and M.A. Vrubel). Interestingly, despite the church's very obviously Russian aspect, its principle architect, A. Parland, was not even Russian by birth." Source

LIECHTENSTEIN - Vaduz

I am happy to received my third card from Liechtenstein. Thank you so much to Sava, my travelling friend. How I wish I could travel as frequent as him!

"Vaduz  is the capital of Liechtenstein and also the seat of the national parliament. The town, which is located along the Rhine River, has about 5,100 residents as of 2009, most of whom belong to the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vaduz is seated in Vaduz Cathedral.

The most prominent landmark of Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, the home of the reigning prince of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein princely family. The castle is visible from almost any location in Vaduz, being perched atop a steep hill in the middle of the city. The Cathedral of St. Florin, Government House and City Hall are also well-known landmarks, displaying the various styles and periods of architecture that the city is known for. "

NETHERLAND - Hotel De Vrouwe van Stravoren

Sleeping in the Barrel hotel, thanks to postcrosser Hetty for the card.

"Sleeping in a wine barrel, that is what makes a stay at the Hotel de Vrouwe van Stavoren (The Lady of Stavoren) so very special. The wine barrels are of Swiss origin and used to contain more than 14,500 liters of wine. The beds stand inside the wine barrel and the round wooden walls give a very cozy and secure feeling, like in the galley of a ship. The ceiling of the wine barrel is high enough, so you can stand up in it. At the back of each barrel is a doorway is made, leading to the sitting room with shower and toilet. Also the other rooms are comfortably furnished, with private shower and toilet and television. The hotel rooms in the new wing are more spacious and have a radio, telephone and a bath." Source

CROATIA - Post office car at the Borgo-Crc square in 1902

The second card from Anja shows a city of Labin back in 1902 (Labin wasn't even part of Croatia then).  The square hasn't changed much and still looks almost the same today.  Thank you Anja for the wonderful vintage card!

Dolac Market is the biggest market in Zagreb and at background you could see the Zagreb Cathedral. Many thanks to Anja for the great card.

"Dolac is a farmers' market located in Gornji Grad - Medveščak city district of Zagreb, Croatia. Dolac is the most visited and the best known farmer's market in Zagreb, well known for its combination of traditional open market with stalls and a sheltered market below. It is located only a few dozen meters away from the main city square, Ban Jelačić Square, between the oldest parts of Zagreb, Gradec and Kaptol. The Dolac market Zagreb is centrally located right behind the town’s main square. It’s Zagreb‘s main farmers’ market."
